Confused about handling free trials + payment collection timing in Billsby

I’m pretty new to Billsby and I’m trying to set up a subscription product but I’m a bit confused about the best way to structure a free trial.

What I want to do is:

  • Offer a 7-day free trial
  • Collect card details upfront
  • Automatically start charging after the trial ends if the user doesn’t cancel

I’ve created a plan and enabled the trial period, but I’m not fully sure how billing behaves when the trial ends. For example:

  • Does Billsby automatically attempt the first payment exactly at the end of the trial, or is there a delay?
  • If a payment fails after the trial, does the subscription stay active or get paused immediately?
  • Is there a recommended way to handle reminder emails before the trial ends?

Also, is it better to use a trial period on the plan itself or create a separate “trial product” and then upgrade users?

I just want to make sure I’m setting this up in a way that doesn’t accidentally lose customers or double-charge anyone.

Any guidance or real examples would be really appreciated!

Thanks
